If resting makes you feel guilty, this message is probably for you. Do you know that doing nothing is actually doing something? Yes, actually, rest is productive too. I want you to think about it. The energy that we use all day long, every decision, every phone call, every reply, text or email, it takes something from us.
It cost us energy. And there really is a difference in terms of how you show up, whether you're rested or not. Because, see, there are people and even versions of ourselves that we have enough energy to get by.
We have enough energy to survive. That's one type. But see, there's another type of energy that actually comes when you are rested. It's the type of energy that inspires you, it encourages others, it helps people grow, right? And so when I'm talking about rest, that's one of the things we get is a high quality energy, a higher quality quality of energy to offer to ourselves and our others.
And that impacts our performance in some really amazing ways. And I think for us as helpers, sometimes we forget that all day, every day, all of the things. It really can take a toll on us. And you've got to remember, you're gonna hear me say this all the time rest isn't earned. It is a part of the job.
Come on, say it with me. I don't need to earn rest. It's a part of the job in order for me to function well.
And so I want you to even think about taking small pauses, like committing to sleeping for a full night.
You're gonna feel different the next morning. Or if it's during your workday, having that quiet lunch, right? Or stepping outside just for five minutes to get some fresh air and to breathe.
Even seemingly simple things like that bring energy back to you. Come on. It brings power back to you. It can restore and refresh you. Sometimes, even if it's just for a moment, we need to learn to just be.
To stop doing, to stop answering and responding and react to everything and take a moment to just charge. And so I want you to do yourself a favor.
The next time you or someone else tries to make you feel guilty for slowing down or taking a break, I need you, come on, to let yourself know and to remind yourself, hey, I do best when I'm working from a place.
